The Fed stated that it will terminate the program dedicated to regulating banks' digital asset activities and will reintegrate it into the "standard regulatory process." The Federal Reserve Board announced that it will discontinue the "Novel Activities Supervision Program" established in 2023, which aimed to oversee specific activities related to Crypto Assets and distributed ledger technology. In a notice on Friday, the Fed stated that it will terminate this program created in August 2023 and return to "monitoring banks' novel activities through normal regulatory processes." The 2023 program claimed to adopt a "risk-based" approach, including regulating banks that "provide deposit, payment, and lending services to Crypto Assets-related entities and fintech companies." "Since the Board launched the program to regulate specific cryptocurrency and fintech activities of banks, the Board has enhanced its understanding of these activities, the associated risks, and banks' risk management practices," the Fed stated. "Therefore, the Board is reintegrating this knowledge and oversight of these activities back into the standard regulatory process and is rescinding its regulatory letter that established the program in 2023."
